Our Workplace Podcasts

What is podcasting?

It's a new way that Gilbert Acton Ltd. can automatically send you some ideas about good workplace practices to your computer or portable device such as an iPod or your mp3 player. To do this, you subscribe to the podcast by downloading a small piece of software catches or manages all of your podcast subscriptions (see how below). When connected to the internet, the software searches for the latest edition on our website, and will download the latest file to a folder on your computer, ready for when you want to listen on your computer or plug in your iPod or other portable device. This means that you don't have to manually search & download for new programs to download on this website. It happens automatically! Check out Wikipedia's information for a good overview. It's that easy.

How to do it?

  • Download podcasting software such as iTunes or Doppler or other podcasting software. Most applications operate on Mac, PC or Linux. All are free.
  • Once you have set up and acquainted yourself with the podcasting software, you can then subscribe in one of two folowing ways:

    1. Subscribing using iTunes

If you have iTunes installed, you can subscribe to virtually any podcast by dragging its URL into your podcast playlist, or choosing “Subscribe to Podcast” from the Advanced menu and typing in the URL. The iTunes program will load and from then on, every new episode will be downloaded into iTunes and, optionally, into your portable media player.
Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ to download iTunes.

    2. Subscribing using other podcast software

If you use another podcast software (like Juice, Doppler, or Transistr), copy the show's RSS feed, which you'll find by right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking on a Mac) on the show's rss icon [ RSS icon ] and copying the URL that appears. Then paste that URL into your podcast software's add podcast area.

  • If you want to receive these programs regularly, make sure the scheduling function on your podcasting software is set to search for new podcasts automatically
  • Then simply either double click on the file on your computer to listen or send it to your iPod or mp3 player to use with your portable device
